A typical development cycle of a PocketPC application includes intensive
battery tests to make sure the application does not have an extreme impact
on the life of the device's battery. Such a test is relatively easy to
perform, especially using tools such as Perfy.
However, simulating a user touching the screen, and making the backlight go
on in the process, is slightly more challenging.
As nothing was available to automate this laborious manual test, Batry was developed.
Its functionality is simple, it turns the backlight on and off at user definable
interval. For example, the
GolfMate
application we are working on averages a 40 second user interaction, requiring the
backlight, every 3 minutes.
A number of scenarios were defined and Perfy was used to measure the results,
which are displayed below.
